Paul Mercer is a self-taught violinist and violist known for his work with the acclaimed ethereal neoclassical 5-piece, The Changelings.  Paul performs his compositions solo and with other artists coming from diverse genres such as classical avant-garde, jazz, dub, carribbean, gothic, metal, folk, live theatre, experimental puppetry theatre, dance, burlesque, and hip-hop. His recordings explore recent soundtrack compositions, live collaborations, and multi-tracked compositions.

Inspired by the instruments themselves, the pieces he composes and performs are  mostly improvised and evoke the individual history and spirit of the instrument. The compositions feature electronically prepared antique violins, viola, and other instruments such as tampura, piano, toy piano, and autoharp.
